Strategy

The team for this project composed of designers, a creative director, and two animators. The subject was heavy, so we wanted to go for a style that resonates with the innocence of childhood, and the darkness the abuse can bring from the point of view of a child.

Production

The designers provided us animators with each of the shots as Photoshop files, which we then broke down as needed to import into After Effects layers to bring to life with animation.

We rigged the two main characters, a boy and a girl, to allow for consistent movement throughout each shot. People are always surprised by the amount of work that still needs to be put into bringing them to life in every single shot, despite the simplicity of the characters.

Initially, plans were made to add an oil paint brushstroke style to the final animation, but this design ultimately did not make it to the final round.

The piece was extremely well-received. It was heartening to meet Lauren and her dad in person and experience the community that has rallied around their cause. The video itself was posted online in April to coincide with their “Walk Across Florida,” where they meet and connect survivors and raise awareness.
